Pittsburgh Man Thinks He's a Dog, Goes By Name 'Boomer'

Boomer the dog has a bone to pick with the world. He wants to be accepted for his doggie lifestyle.
Born Gary Matthews, the retired technology worker and a self-confessed "nerd" thinks he is a dog. The 48-year-old wears a dog collar, eats dog food from a bowl — his favorite is Pedigree – and loves milk bones and dog cookies.
"I don't eat dog food every day," Matthews told ABCNews.com "It's a special thing for me to do once in awhile to get closer to feeling like a canine. I eat the canned kind. It's not bad -- it tastes OK. I eat regular human food, too, like pizza."
But he has the most fun wearing his dog suit, code-named "Papey," because he made it from shredded paper. He wanders around the streets of his hometown Pittsburgh, barking at cars and digging holes in the backyard.
"When I go out, I get the feeling and I wave to people as a dog," he said. "I go to local festivals because kids like the costume. That's my way of reaching out to people and spreading the word that I can be myself in life. They see that you can have fun in adulthood. But I am kind of a loner dog."
"Sometimes I sleep in my dog house, which is up in the attic -- I built it myself," said Matthews. "It's made out of wood and I can take it apart and move it. I go up there and read a book. It has a little night light and is like a club house."
The mild-mannered and seemingly rational man even has a telephone answering machine that barks. His emails say "pawed" instead of, "said." and he runs a website Boomer the Dog, and a podcast.

Los Angeles airport worker held over 9/11 'threats'

A disgruntled airport security screener was arrested in California on Tuesday in connection with threats made against Los Angeles International Airport ahead of the 9/11 attacks anniversary, authorities said.
Nna Alpha Onuoha, 29, was detained late Tuesday by members of the Los Angeles Joint Terrorism Task Force after triggering an alert at the airport earlier in the day which prompted certain terminals to be evacuated, the FBI said in a statement.
Onuoha had resigned from his job as a Transportation Security Administration screener earlier Tuesday after recently being suspended from the position, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said in a statement.
Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad officers were called earlier Tuesday after Onuoha left a package at the TSA's LAX headquarters addressed to an employee.
The package was harmless but contained a letter in which Onuoha spoke of his "disdain for the United States."
Later Tuesday Onuoha is believed to have called the TSA warning that certain terminals at LAX should be evacuated, Eimiller said.
"The terminals in question were cleared by law enforcement personnel and no threat to the airport was found," Eimiller said.
When anti-terrorism officers raided Onuoha's apartment they discovered a note taped inside a closet "containing an unspecified threat citing the 9/11/13 anniversary."
Onuoha was later arrested and was being held on suspicion of making threats, pending further investigation, the FBI said.

University Forces Students to Wear Anti-Cheating Helmet During Exams

In an effort to curb rampant cheating Bangkok's Kasetsart university has created an anti-deceit paper helmet for students to wear during their midterm exams.
The device, which resembles horse blinders made out of computer paper, was unofficially unveiled on an alumni Facebook page.

Shortly after being uploaded the photo was quickly taken down, but not before the student, Thanut Udomhirun, captured a screenshot of the helmets in action.

It's not clear how many classes use the device or how long the university has taken such extreme measures.

Also in addition to the helmet, there were two versions of the test given out to students.

Girl’s best friend: LilyBelle the goldendoodle sniffs out nuts in allergic Meghan’s food

LilyBelle comforts Meghan during a visit to the hospital

Little Meghan Weingarth’s pet dog is more of a guardian angel than a best friend.
The seven-year-old has an allergy that could send her into shock if she eats anything that contains peanuts or almonds.
But goldendoodle LilyBelle has been trained to sniff out nuts in her food and raise a paw if any are present. Meghan, from Suwanee, Georgia in the US, also suffers from a rare condition that causes seizures.
LilyBelle can alert others when Meghan is about to suffer a seizure and comforts her owner.
Meghan’s mother, Jennifer Schillig, said: ‘They’re so cute together they follow each other everywhere. There’s definitely a strong bond between them.

Meghan and LilyBelle share a hug
‘If one of them is not in the room they’ll look for one another, they always want to be right next to each other.
‘LilyBelle goes to school with Meghan, hospital appointments, church, grocery shopping, birthday parties. They’re always together.
‘Before LilyBelle things were very challenging, I couldn’t leave Meghan in the room on her own as she always wanted me by her side.
‘Now LilyBelle’s there I can leave the room and do other household chores such as the washing and cleaning without worrying about Meghan.
‘It’s great to have that peace of mind as I know as long as Lily Belle is by her side, Meghan will be okay.’
